The works, which have now commenced, address a public demand to renovate the facilities of the city's main park. The southern sandpit's children's play equipment will be replaced, and a calisthenics area will be installed. Additionally, a zipline for children aged 6 and above will be set up in the northern part of the park.
The project is being carried out by the company HPC Ibérica, which is also responsible for park maintenance in the city. The contract, formalized for an amount of 299,163.49 euros including VAT, is financed through the Más Sevilla program from the Provincial Council. The works are progressing well and are scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
Ángel Peña, delegate for Urbanism, announced that 21 new trees of different species will be planted, including Chinese soapberry, fruitless mulberries, jacarandas, European nettle trees, magnolias, and tipuanas, all equipped with a drip irrigation system.
Peña also explained that the removed playground equipment cannot be reused in other parks due to obsolescence, but loose parts will be utilized for future repairs of other children's play structures in Écija.
Mayor Silvia Heredia emphasized the necessity of this project, particularly for San Pablo Park, due to its high attendance of families. "Replacing children's play equipment is needed throughout the city, but we believed it was essential to start with our San Pablo Park, which is very busy every afternoon and weekend," she stated, adding that "this sandpit area was quite damaged."
Heredia also highlighted the inclusion of the calisthenics park, "as it was something highly requested by the public, since it doesn't exist in any other area of our city." "These facilities are very trendy, and therefore we reaffirm this local government's commitment to sports and healthy living," she concluded.
