The Municipal Summer School in Baza closed its doors this Wednesday, August 26th, after an edition that broke attendance records with a total of 179 enrolled minors, a figure that surpasses the 32 editions held to date. The facilities of CEIP “Francisco de Velasco” hosted the initiative, which began on July 1st. The average attendance during July was 145 students, while in August it stood at 120.
José Vico, director of the municipal service offered by the Social Welfare department of the City Council, confirmed the execution of all scheduled activities. These included themed weeks, swimming pool outings, workshops, water games, sports sessions, and educational support for the schoolchildren. Visits also took place, such as that of the Honorary Cascamorras, Jesús Samaniego, and encounters with the association Íbera por la Dama de Baza and users from the Alfaguara center for an intergenerational meeting.
As a new feature this year, the Summer School included a specific classroom where three professionals attended to ten minors with special educational needs. Additionally, thanks to the collaboration of the Red Cross, forty minors at risk of social exclusion received support at the dining hall.
The overall evaluation of the 2026 Municipal Summer School has been very positive, highlighting the exemplary coexistence and the satisfaction of the participants. A team of 13 professionals and 7 support volunteers contributed to the initiative's success.
