The National Statistics Institute (INE) has released data revealing a growing concentration of tourist accommodations in the old town of Jerez. Certain census sections within the walled city now show 19% of properties dedicated to local lodging, a figure comparable to that of coastal municipalities with high tourist influx.
According to the INE's preliminary report, areas such as the vicinity of San Marcos square and streets like Francos, Belén, and part of Arroyo exceed this threshold. In comparison, towns like Conil and Tarifa, tourism hubs, show similar percentages in neighborhoods like Santa María (Cádiz) or central areas of Tarifa, nearing 25%.
Within Jerez, the intramuros area hosts 282 tourist apartments, followed by San Pedro with 149, and the San Miguel neighborhood with 141. The area around Corredera and the Angustias square is approaching a hundred.
The state statistical body's report, updated twice annually, indicates a particularly marked increase in the San Miguel neighborhood, with around twenty new tourist homes registered compared to the previous year, bringing the total to approximately 140 properties in this historic center area.
Outside the old town, the San Pedro area registers 11% of tourist homes relative to the total residential properties, with about 150 accounted for. The Angustias square and its surroundings also show a significant presence, with 93 accommodations.
Other areas with a considerable number of tourist homes include Madre de Dios-Porvenir (49), the Santiago neighborhood (44), and the census section between Mamelón, Porvera, and Guadalete (22).
