The cultural program for the 'Noche en Blanco' began last night with a notable public attendance at the Saccone Gardens. More than two hundred people witnessed the first of two scheduled theatrical performances for these days. The event was attended by the mayor, Juan Franco, and the Councillor for Culture, Raquel Ñeco.
The group Sinsentido Teatro, with a script by Nadia Zumelaga, staged a tragicomedy that recreated the moments before and the death of King Alfonso XI of Castile. The performance focused on the early morning of Maundy Thursday to Good Friday in 1350, during the second siege of Gibraltar, contextualizing the events in the Christian camp located in the current municipality of La Línea. This monarch is remembered as the only sovereign in Christian Europe to die from the Black Death.
Following the positive reception of this historical reenactment, the Saccone Gardens will host the inauguration of the 'Jardín de las Hadas' (Fairy Garden) this Friday, July 31st, at 10:00 PM. This new proposal will transform the venue with careful luminous decoration, street performances, and interactive routes for citizens, which will be repeated on the nights of Saturday, August 1st, and Sunday, August 2nd.
