Organized by the Agrupación Parroquial Romeros de San Roque in collaboration with the City Council, this year's pilgrimage stands out for its significant turnout, with nearly 20 carts and over 200 horse riders registered. This event is solidifying its position as one of the most important celebrations in the region's festive calendar.
The pilgrimage is set to begin on Saturday, April 18, at 8:30 AM, with the reception of carts and horses at the Hermitage of San Roque. Following a prayer to the Patron Saint at 9:00 AM and the presentation of sashes to the Romero and Romera 2026, participants will start their journey. The route will pass through emblematic natural landscapes such as La Alcaidesa and Pinar del Rey, blending tradition with the beauty of the surroundings.
During Saturday, a floral offering will be made at the Chapel of the Visitation, and the Angelus will be recited at 12:00 PM. Afterwards, there will be a stop at Pinar Cortijo Alcaidesa at 1:30 PM, where a complimentary pilgrim's stew will be served. The afternoon will conclude with the arrival at Pinar del Rey for dinner and communal gathering, along with contests such as best-dressed horse rider and most traditional cart. To facilitate return, buses will be available with scheduled departures throughout the night.
On Sunday, April 19, activities will continue with the pilgrims' mass at 12:30 PM, which will include an offering of the Fandango de Punta y Tacón and a performance by the Coro Rociero Ciudad de San Roque. The festive day will proceed with flamenco performances, a chorizada romera at 1:30 PM, and the traditional ribbon races at 4:30 PM, organized in collaboration with the Asociación Amigos del Caballo La Polaima. The return of the Patron Saint to the hermitage, marking the close of this celebratory weekend, is scheduled for 8:30 PM.
