The Mancomunidad de Municipios del Campo de Gibraltar reinforces its commitment to social initiatives through its collaboration with the Hermandad del Rocío de Algeciras in the XI edition of the Summer Camps. This project will allow 54 children, assisted by Cáritas, to enjoy days of coexistence, training, and leisure in the village of El Rocío, within the Doñana National Park.
The vice-president delegate for Social Welfare of the Mancomunidad, María Teresa García León, and the senior brother of the Hermandad del Rocío de Algeciras, Javier Vega, highlighted the value of the project and the importance of cooperation between public institutions and associative fabric for social inclusion and equal opportunities.
Under the slogan «Con la música a otra parte» (With music elsewhere), the camps will offer the minors a unique coexistence experience in a privileged natural environment, with educational, cultural, recreational, and environmental activities focused on values such as solidarity, respect, and care for nature.
The Summer Camps originated eleven years ago through the initiative of the Youth Group of the Hermandad del Rocío de Algeciras and members of the Governing Board, with the aim of offering children in vulnerable situations an opportunity for coexistence and personal growth. It has since become a prominent social initiative of the Brotherhood.
This collaboration is part of the line of cooperation initiated on May 15 between the Mancomunidad and the Rocío Brotherhoods of Campo de Gibraltar. On that occasion, the president of the regional institution, Susana Pérez Custodio, met with the senior brothers of Algeciras, La Línea, and San Roque, and 1,500 bracelets were distributed with the legend «Rocieros del Campo de Gibraltar».
