The workshop, which will take place every Thursday in October and November at the La Estación Civic Center, began today, Thursday, October 8, with 19 participants, mostly women. The presentation ceremony was attended by the councilors for Communication and Participation, Anabel Montero, and for Senior Care, Toñi Hernández.
The program's main objective is to raise public awareness about stereotypes and prejudices towards older adults, while also promoting the creation of social relationships that provide emotional stability and improve participants' quality of life.
The program includes 40-hour communication workshops where participants will learn radio production, scripting, and recording techniques. As a culmination, they will produce a collective radio program to apply their acquired knowledge.
This edition of ‘Mayores en la Onda’ is also taking place in Chipiona, Aracena, Pizarra, and Rute, through their respective local radio stations. The created radio programs will be broadcast on Onda Guillena Radio and on the programming of Onda Local de Andalucía.
EMA-RTV highlights that the project uses radio as a tool to promote active aging, improve the social image of Andalusian seniors, and ensure this group has its own spaces and a leading voice in local media. Since its launch in 2018, over 1,000 seniors have participated in this initiative.
The initiative is part of EMA-RTV's awareness and education actions for development, offering an opportunity to reflect on the media's treatment of minorities and groups at risk of social exclusion.
