The incident occurred last Palm Sunday, around 4:30 PM, as the victim was returning to her residence. An individual approached her, asking for money, and after her refusal, followed her into the building's entrance, where he assaulted her from behind.
The assailant, brandishing a knife, cut one of the straps of the woman's purse with the intention of stealing it. Despite her advanced age, the victim tried to prevent the robbery, leading to a struggle during which she was pushed and fell to the ground. Ultimately, the attacker managed to snatch her purse, leaving the woman with knee injuries due to the violence used.
After partially recovering, the woman sought help but could not find anyone nearby. The National Police immediately launched an investigation to clarify the facts, given the seriousness of the crime and the victim's vulnerability.
Police efforts led to the swift identification of the perpetrator, who was located in a neighborhood of the city. Upon noticing the police presence, he attempted to flee but was immediately intercepted and arrested. During his time in police custody, the detainee admitted to the facts.
The man has nine previous arrests, several of them for similar offenses, highlighting his recidivist nature. After being brought before judicial authorities, his entry into the Botafuegos Penitentiary Center was ordered.
