The mayor of La Línea de la Concepción, Juan Franco, has confirmed ongoing contacts with the Government of Gibraltar. These discussions will continue in August, once the removal of the border fence is formalized on July 15. The objective is to address day-to-day issues, separate from major political matters, such as access.
Looking ahead to next week, Franco has confirmed his invitation to an event marking the planned visit of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, to the city. Additionally, the Government of Gibraltar has organized an event on July 14 at the airport, to which the mayor has also been invited.
Regarding the Prime Minister's visit, the mayor expressed interest in discussing matters related to the future of land not under municipal ownership, as well as the City Council's interest in acquiring land in the area.
The mayor considers July 15 to be a historic day, describing it as excellent news, while also cautioning the need for vigilance regarding potential consequences, both positive and negative.
