Six months after the severe damage recorded on the A-381 Jerez-Los Barrios highway due to the storm season in February, the Junta de Andalucía has increased efforts with twenty workers and heavy machinery to restore normality to the road.
Currently, work is focused on kilometer 28 of the highway, within the municipality of Medina Sidonia. There, the slope is being stabilized by installing a triple screen composed of 180 pilings, each 22 meters deep, designed to secure the hillside after the landslide that occurred in February 2026. Simultaneously, the longitudinal drainage system is being reconstructed, new ditches are being created, slope defenses are being expanded, and the lower rubble wall is being replaced.
Once these interventions are completed, the Ministry will proceed with the reconstruction of the damaged roadway. The works are being carried out without requiring a complete closure of the highway, by reducing the number of available lanes in the affected section to accommodate the considerable daily traffic volume on the A-381.
The February 2026 rainfall caused a massive ground slide on the left side of the highway, accompanied by cracks at the slope's crest, deformations in the rubble wall, and rockfalls. The longitudinal and crest ditches also suffered damage. On the right side, cracks and deformations of lesser magnitude appeared, even affecting the roadway itself with significant undulations.
These repairs on the A-381 Jerez-Los Barrios are part of a series of emergency actions promoted throughout the province of Cádiz, funded by the Plan Andalucía Actúa, which mobilizes over 107 million euros.
