The vessels Solerig VI, Al Tarik IV, Senador II, and Bliss secured victories in their respective categories during the fourth race of the Strait Interclubs Championship. The regatta, designed for cruiser-type boats, was organized by the Club Marítimo Linense and took place in the waters of La Línea, bringing together 31 participants.
The day commenced with an informative talk by a biologist and researcher from Ecolocaliza, who highlighted the importance of reporting cetacean sightings in the Strait of Gibraltar and collaborating in their conservation. Subsequently, the race committee set a coastal course adapted to the meteorological conditions, with variable winds between 10 and 20 knots and a forecast of squalls.
The route led the fleet towards the landfall buoy and the Gibraltar airport buoy, covering 12.70 miles for the ORC class and 11 miles for the Reduced and Club classes. The start was intense, with boats vying for the best position. The race proceeded at a good pace until a strong squall arrived, increasing wind gusts to 25 knots and making navigation more challenging.
Despite some withdrawals due to minor breakages, no significant incidents were reported, and the fleet successfully completed the race. The next championship event is scheduled for June 20 and will be organized by the Real Club Marítimo de Sotogrande in San Roque.
