After an exhaustive selection process involving a dozen candidates, the blue and white entity has chosen the Algeciras-born lawyer Dani Alejo to take over sporting direction. Alejo, born in Algeciras on March 14, 1981, is in advanced negotiations with the club, and the agreement is expected to be formalized shortly, ending Antonio Bello's tenure in the role.
A law graduate from the University of Cadiz with a Master's in Sports Law, Alejo possesses a solid academic and professional background. He holds coaching qualifications (level III), sporting direction, FA Talent Identification, and sports marketing certifications, along with specialized courses in football player assessment.
His track record in Group 4 of Segunda RFEF is noteworthy. He began his career as technical secretary at UD Estepona and later served as sporting director for CD San Roque. His time at Algeciras CF culminated in promotion to Primera RFEF and a playoff appearance for promotion to Segunda División. He subsequently led Recreativo de Huelva, achieving two consecutive promotions to Primera RFEF.
His most recent club was Unión Deportiva Melilla, where he did not achieve the objective of remaining in Primera Federación. Now, he arrives in Jerez with the ambitious goal of returning Xerez DFC to Segunda RFEF, an objective shared by the club's president, Sebastián Alonso de Medina, who described the past season as a "sporting failure".
The new sporting director is familiar with the group and the league. His first task will be to select the new coach and assemble the squad for the upcoming season in what is expected to be a highly competitive Group X.
