Officers from the Service Core and the Canine Service of the Algeciras Command, in collaboration with officials from Botafuegos Prison, have made a significant arrest. An individual, a relative of an inmate, was caught attempting to smuggle various narcotic substances concealed within their body.
These regular controls and inspections are crucial for preventing the entry of drugs through inmate visits. The prison management and the Algeciras Civil Guard Command coordinate joint services at the entrance, involving canine units specialized in drug detection.
The arrest occurred a few days ago when the individual was found attempting to introduce, concealed inside their body, a piece of hashish weighing approximately 28 grams and two papers impregnated with some type of narcotic substance. The person was transferred to Civil Guard facilities for the initiation of proceedings for an alleged crime against public health.
The Civil Guard has emphasized the importance of this inter-institutional coordination, highlighting that detecting such behaviors can prevent overdoses and save lives. The new method of introducing substances impregnated in paper, with its variable and uncontrolled chemical composition, significantly increases the health risk for inmates.
