This year, the fair will center on “Hispanism in the Strait of Gibraltar,” a theme that aims to highlight Algeciras's identity as a cultural meeting point. This approach emphasizes literature's role as a bridge between territories, especially in an area marked by exchange between Europe and Africa.
Organized by the City Council, the fair will use Plaza Alta and the José Luis Cano Documentary Center as its main venues. The official inauguration is set for April 23 at 11:00 AM, followed by the opening speech at 12:00 PM, delivered by a writer. The verdict of the “Bahía de Papel” competition will also be announced on the same day.
Throughout the ten-day event, attendees can enjoy a varied cultural program including storytelling and children's workshops, book signings with authors, literary presentations, and musical and dance performances during the weekends. Notable presentations include El Estrecho toma la palabra on April 24, and the magazine Dos Orillas on April 27.
Plaza Alta will host over 40 exhibition modules, where bookstores, publishers, and cultural groups will present their offerings to the public. Additionally, the program will feature special activities such as a day dedicated to Mother's Day on May 3, designed to encourage family participation. The City Council has underscored the vital involvement of local bookstores, associations, and cultural entities in making this fair possible, as well as the announcement poster, created by a local artist.
