Algeciras Club de Fútbol (Primera Federación) will make its home debut this Saturday at 8:00 PM. The team, managed this season by Adrián Colunga, will face the English reserve team, Tottenham, in the single match of the XXXI edition of the Virgen de la Palma Trophy. This game marks the start of the red-and-white club's preseason, which includes four other friendly matches.
Algeciras, which began training on July 13th, approaches this trophy, named after the city's patron saint, as a significant starting point. The match date has been moved forward compared to previous years.
Fans attending the Nuevo Mirador will get to see the squad that will compete in the club's sixth consecutive season in Primera Federación. The sporting director, Jordi Figueras, has been working on assembling the team, with plans to potentially add a winger and perhaps a key striker.
Confirmed signings for the team include goalkeeper Tao Paradowski (from UD Ibiza), center-back Fran Carmona (Ourense CF), midfielder Toni Ramón (Atlético Baleares), and forwards Diego Iglesias (Xerez DFC) and Raúl Rubio (Real Avilés). The Tottenham Hotspur U21 team enters the match having lost their two previous preseason games.
Ticket prices for the match are five euros for season ticket holders and ten euros for non-season ticket holders in the stands and preference sections, while tribune seats will cost fifteen euros.
Algeciras are the current holders of the trophy, having won it last summer against Xerez DFC on penalties. This victory brings their total to 18 titles in the trophy's thirty editions, reinforcing their historical dominance. The trophy was not played in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, nor in 2022 and 2023. Other past winners include Cádiz CF, AD Ceuta, Real Balompédica Linense, and Málaga CF, among others.
