Salerm Puente Genil will play in Segunda Federación next season. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has informed the club that it will occupy the place left by Unión Malacitano, a team that competed in group III and was a rival to the Puente Genil team last season.
The club is administratively promoted by achieving a better classification among the relegated teams from group IV of the 2025/2026 season. Salerm Puente Genil finished the regular league with 40 points, four ahead of their immediate pursuer, Xerez DFC.
In a statement, the red-and-black club defended its sporting right to the vacancy, based on its better qualifying position among the relegated teams from group 4 of Segunda Federación in the 2025/2026 campaign.
Although the promotion is a fact, the group in which Salerm Puente Genil will compete is yet to be determined. Initially, it would occupy Unión Malacitano's spot in group III, but the club prefers to compete in group IV for geographical reasons. This change could involve a restructuring of several groups, including the possible transfer of Albacete's reserve team to group III and the Extremaduran teams Don Benito and Badajoz to group V.
The vacancy left in group X of Tercera RFEF by Puente Genil's promotion also needs to be filled. There is a precedent from 2022 where Estepona was promoted and its place was taken by Maracena. If the Royal Andalusian Football Federation (RFAF) follows that criterion, the beneficiary would be Montilla CF. Alternatively, the RFEF could apply the same system as for Segunda Federación and reinstate the best-relegated team, in which case it would be Sevilla C.
