The iconic Miragenil Confectionery in Puente Genil, a family business with three generations of history, will permanently close its doors on May 31st, leaving a void in the local pastry tradition.
The announcement, shared on social media by Luis Fernando Gama, the current manager, has surprised residents of the Córdoba town. After forty years in its latest iteration, the establishment has been a meeting point and a symbol of artisanal confectionery in Puente Genil.

"In life, everything comes and everything goes. After three generations, and this last one with 40 years sweetening your lives at Confitería Miragenil, the time has come to close a very important chapter in ours."
The confectionery was more than just a business; it was a cultural and social landmark, especially for residents of the neighborhood across the Genil River. Its location next to the bridge that gives the municipality its name made it an emblem, even immortalized in an iconic image from 1963, resisting the river's flood.
Sweets such as roscos de gachas, milhojas, cortadillos, berlinas, and tocinos de cielo, all handmade, will no longer delight their loyal customers. The news also impacts other local businesses that sold their products, displaying signs that read “We have Miragenil sweets.”
Beyond its confectionery work, the shop was known for its social commitment, supporting environmental causes, serving as a community hub during the pandemic, and contributing to the recovery of public spaces, such as the riverwalk after the Alcabala. The owners have expressed their gratitude to the community and announced that they will provide information about the future of the premises, opening up the possibility of a takeover or a new project.

"We cannot say goodbye without thanking you. Thank you for making us part of your celebrations and your daily lives. You have been the main ingredient of our success."
