The tremor recorded in Alhendín (Granada), over 200 kilometers away, was felt in 45 locations across the province of Córdoba, reaching an intensity of III-IV in towns such as Castillo de la Albaida, Priego de Córdoba, La Golondrina, La Reina, and Montoro, according to data from the National Geographic Institute (IGN).
Historically, the southern part of the Cordoba province has been the site of three significant earthquakes with magnitudes around 5: the one in Montilla in 1930 (magnitude 5.1, maximum intensity VII-VIII), the one in Benamejí on March 14, 1935 (magnitude 5.0, maximum intensity V), and the one in Espejo on May 26, 1985 (magnitude 5.1, maximum intensity V).
The ING catalog details broader seismic activity in Córdoba, with a total of 120 registered seismic events. The locations with the highest number of tremors are Espejo (24), Córdoba capital (11), Montilla (ten), Montoro (nine), Priego de Córdoba (seven), and Villa del Río (four).
Other earthquakes with magnitudes over 4.0 have been documented, such as the one in Nueva Carteya on January 23, 1962, and in Espejo on February 6, 1968, or the one recorded west of Valenzuela on May 17, 1967.
The province has experienced several periods of notable seismic activity, particularly in the 1960s and the second half of the 1980s, with tremors of magnitude 3 and 4 in municipalities like Espejo, Montilla, and Montemayor. This activity continued through the 1990s and into the 21st century, including a magnitude 4.4 earthquake northwest of Espejo on January 24, 2003.
