The athlete from Jerez, Rubén Puerto, has announced a solidarity challenge where he will run 200 kilometers in seven stages, from Cádiz to Villablanca (Huelva), to raise funds and awareness for the Cádiz Brain Injury Association (ADACCA).
The initiative, which will commence on Monday, April 13, in Cádiz and conclude on Sunday, April 19, in Villablanca, was organized by Rubén Puerto himself. The Delegate of Sports and Health, Tomás Sampalo, joined the athlete at the presentation of this significant endeavor.
Puerto's motivation for this challenge arose after a severe accident suffered by his father-in-law two years ago, on April 6, 2024, which led to a prolonged hospitalization and considerable expenses. This personal incident prompted him to shape the race while preparing for the Trail Triana-Doñana.
The race route will include towns such as Cádiz, Puerto Real, Jerez, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Matalascañas, Mazagón, and Aljaraque, before reaching Villablanca, the hometown of Rubén Puerto's relative. The athlete has expressed his desire for the community to join in supporting the cause and highlighting ADACCA's work.
“
"There will be a passage through Jerez, my hometown. I hope everyone joins in to give visibility to the work done by the Acquired Brain Injury Association of Cádiz (ADACCA). For this purpose, an account number has been opened, and merchandise such as t-shirts for 5 euros has been put on sale. The money raised will be used to purchase an articulated stretcher."
The second stage, scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, will depart from Plaza de Jesús in Puerto Real at 9:30 AM and finish in Plaza de La Asunción in Jerez, where Puerto will be received at the Jerez City Council. Delegate Tomás Sampalo has stated his intention to participate in this 28-kilometer stage.
“
"If my schedule allows and I have the legs for it, I will accompany Rubén."
Sampalo emphasized the connection between sport and health, reaffirming the commitment of the Sports Delegation to solidarity initiatives like this one. The second stage's route will pass through Los Toruños, Aqua Sherry, Laguna de Torrox, Arroyo Street, and Consistorio Street, with an estimated arrival between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM.
