The twinning between Vejer de la Frontera and Chefchaouen, which dates back to the year 2000, is being commemorated this year with a series of cultural events organized by the Vejer City Council through its Culture department. These celebrations aim to strengthen the historical ties and coexistence between both towns.
The cultural program will span six days, starting on Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18, with the recreation of an Andalusian souk. This market will feature crafts, traditional products, and ancestral techniques, and will take place along Ramón y Cajal street towards the Castle of Vejer.
On Sunday, July 19, the Segur Walls will host the concert ‘Música sin Frontera’ (Music without Borders), performed by Tito Alcedo and Ricardo Piñero, starting at 11:00 PM.
The events will culminate on Tuesday, July 21, with an institutional ceremony in the Hall of the San Francisco Municipal Theater. On the same day, at 9:00 PM, the play “La leyenda de Ben Rachid y Lalla Zhora” (The Legend of Ben Rachid and Lalla Zhora) will be performed, a love story symbolizing the union between Vejer and Chaouen. This play will also be performed on Wednesday, July 22, with advance tickets at €12 and at the box office for €15.
