The works, coordinated by Aguas de Cádiz and the Local Police, are focused on the section of the San Carlos wall and aim to improve water quality control in the sanitation network, especially during heavy rains, floods, and discharges into the sea. The timing, after Carnival and Holy Week, seeks to minimize disruptions to urban life before the start of the summer season.
Although a maximum period of one month is estimated for the duration of the works, the Councillor for Urban Planning, José Manuel Cossi, has expressed the intention to reduce this time “as much as possible” to lessen inconvenience for residents and visitors. Access to homes and garages will be guaranteed for residents in the affected area.
“"This is an important work to improve and digitalize the sanitation network on this road."
The main traffic cuts will be established in Plaza Argüelles and Plaza de la Hispanidad to prevent vehicles from entering Honduras Street. Garage users will be able to access their properties via alternative routes such as Conde ÓReilly, República el Salvador, Costa Rica, avenida del Descubrimiento, calle Méjico, San Carlos, and, exceptionally, through the passable section of Honduras Street.
Urban transport line 2 will also modify its route, establishing its start and end stop at Alameda Clara Campoamor, near Plaza Argüelles, at the height of Isabel la Católica Street.
This action is part of the strategic project Perte Watercog-PC, funded by the European Union through Next Generation EU funds, aiming to modernize the integrated water cycle management using new technologies. The work includes the digitalization of discharge point PV-27, with the installation of a control station equipped with advanced sensors such as digital limnimeters and multiparameter probes to monitor water level and quality in real time.
