The protest will depart at 12:00 PM from Plaza San Antonio under the slogan Housing costs us our lives. This mobilization is part of a series of protests held in 23 Spanish cities by the State Confederation of Tenants' Unions.
The collective points out that the situation in Cádiz has worsened due to the rise of seasonal rentals. They estimate that nearly 70% of online rental listings are for seasonal contracts, a practice they claim is used to withdraw properties from the residential market during the summer months for tourism purposes.
In addition to the pressure on the private market, the organization criticizes the management of the Andalusian Housing and Rehabilitation Agency (AVRA). The union claims there are numerous vacant public housing units in the city and demands greater transparency in the management of these resources amid the current housing emergency.
Data provided by the organization indicates that rental prices in metropolitan and coastal areas have increased by 60%, while wages have only risen by about 20%. This gap, combined with the existence of over 2,370 tourist-use dwellings, is causing, according to the union, the displacement of local residents and a steady population decline in the city.
