The trade union Autonomía Obrera has filed a complaint with the Labor Inspectorate and the Territorial Delegation of Industry, highlighting dangers such as potential electrocution, asbestos exposure, and structural collapses at the municipal warehouse.
According to a report sent to the Mayor's Office on April 6, the facilities show water leaks affecting electrical panels, power outlets, air conditioning units, and lighting fixtures. The union argues that the combination of humidity and electricity could pose a risk of electric shock or fire.
The document also details that the warehouse roof, made of fiber cement with asbestos, exhibits cracks and is in an advanced state of deterioration. The union warns that the material has reached a friable state, potentially leading to the detachment of fibers, especially during rain or easterly wind episodes, which are common in the city.
Additionally, significant structural damage has been identified in pillars, walls, and changing rooms, including deep cracks, concrete spalling, and exposed rusted rebar. These deficiencies could result in fragments falling on workers or vehicles.
“"The municipal Prevention Service itself had described the state of the warehouse as “very deficient."
In response to this situation, Autonomía Obrera has requested an urgent extraordinary meeting of the Occupational Health Committee, with the participation of political officials, technicians, and worker representatives. Proposed measures include sealing off critical areas, an independent technical evaluation, and the potential temporary relocation of personnel.
The union has criticized the inaction of those responsible for the service for continuing operations at the warehouse despite the described risks. Although an investment of 350,000 euros for the Vehicle Fleet was announced, the organization notes that there is no record of a drafted project or an ongoing tender.
The municipal Vehicle Fleet is crucial for the Cádiz City Council, providing maintenance and logistical support to areas such as Urban Planning and the Local Police. As of now, the City Council has not issued a public statement regarding the complaints.
