The Cadiz city will be the protagonist of stage 18 of the cycling tour, an individual time trial covering 32.5 kilometers. The race will begin at 2:06 PM from the city's Plaza de Toros, with a large starting ramp set up for the occasion.
The route will conclude in Jerez, after passing through locations such as El Portal, Lomopardo, and Estella del Marqués. Throughout August, road surfacing work has been carried out on the roads affected by the stage to optimize the route.
The City Council is also tidying up the city's central reservations, repainting them blue, in preparation for the event. The television broadcast of the stage is considered a significant advertising campaign for El Puerto, given the event's millions of viewers.
The race's official website has highlighted that El Puerto and its surroundings "concentrate the best of the Bay of Cádiz: history, nature, and a privileged coast." Its coastline, protected landscapes, and monumental heritage are mentioned.
This will be the first time El Puerto serves as the starting point for a Vuelta a España stage since the race passed through the city in 2014. The 2026 edition will commence on August 22nd in Monaco.
