The completion of the works at San Telmo Field marks the end of a period of uncertainty for the approximately 300 athletes who use these facilities. For months, the clubs were forced to train and play at other sports venues due to accumulated delays in replacing the artificial turf.
The Deputy Mayor for Coordination of Public Services, Jaime Espinar, and the Sports Delegate, Tomás Sampalo, conducted a technical visit to the sports facilities. The acceptance of the work by the City Council took place this Tuesday, following an inspection carried out jointly with members of the Football Federation, the user clubs, the merchants' association Adecosur, the Vallesequillo Neighborhood Association, and the South Zone Exists Coordinator.
The improvements, awarded to the company Mondo Ibérica S.A. for an amount of 266,911.37 euros with a two-month execution period, included the replacement of the elastic base and the artificial turf pavement. Additionally, sports equipment and drainage grates have been renewed, existing accesses have been adapted, and accessible and inclusive signage has been provided throughout the complex.
Municipal representatives emphasized the importance of making these renovated facilities available to the public as soon as possible. They announced that, as of this Tuesday, athletes can already train in the updated space, and matches will be able to be played starting next weekend.
The new artificial turf is state-of-the-art, designed to be certified according to FIFA Quality and FIFA Quality Pro standards. The sports equipment has also been replaced, including one set of 11-a-side soccer goals and four foldable 7-a-side soccer goals, as well as corner flags, all in accordance with current regulations.
Furthermore, pedestrian accesses to the field have been adapted to comply with accessibility standards, with the installation of metallic double-handrail railings and new paving. Accessible and inclusive signage has been implemented in the soccer field area of the complex, and common areas have been signposted, changing rooms repaired and painted, and a bicycle rack installed.
As of this Tuesday, the City Council is also carrying out complementary tasks that could not be executed during the main construction, such as clearing the areas adjacent to the soccer field, repairing and painting the changing rooms in the sports courts, painting concrete benches, and replacing wooden benches and dugouts.
