The company Ágora. Conservación del patrimonio is responsible for carrying out the restoration and conservation work on this monument, which shows various graffiti and deteriorations on both the sculpture and its base.
The restoration efforts will include chemical and mechanical cleaning to remove concretions and the red graffiti visible on the front area, as well as paint remnants on the pedestal. Mortar will also be replaced, green bronze oxidations removed, and chromatic reintegration performed in necessary areas.
This monument was erected in Plaza de las Viudas in December 2015, initiated by a group of devotees and to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the arrival of the Sisters of the Cross to Cádiz in 2009. Until its installation, it was kept in the Order's convent on Calle Benjumeda.
The citizen commission that promoted this tribute highlighted the significant social work carried out by the nuns in the city, assisting needy and sick individuals, in addition to their work at the nursing home.
