The PSOE of Algeciras has reported that the municipality's beaches failed to provide adequate services during the recent Easter Week, despite a significant influx of visitors and favorable weather, leading to criticism of the local government's management.

Socialist councilwoman Paqui Pizarro expressed her dissatisfaction with the municipal administration, labeling the mayor's assessment of tourist success as “triumphalist.” According to Pizarro, the mayor is allegedly using marketing to conceal “disastrous management” of public services.
The socialist group contends that the notable occupancy of beaches like El Rinconcillo and Getares was primarily due to good weather, not municipal foresight. They emphasize that services were not fully operational from the start of Easter Week, despite it being classified as a “high season” period.

"The terms of the beach maintenance and cleaning service contract, which costs us over 2 million euros annually and has been extended for a year, stipulate that the entire Easter Week — from Good Friday to Easter Sunday — must have all services appropriate for that category."

However, the PSOE asserts that public restrooms, waste bins, and surveillance and lifeguard services were not available until Holy Thursday, which they deem “incomprehensible.” They add that staffing for beach preparation was “minimal” during the initial days, reportedly causing complaints and a negative image for tourism.
The socialist councilwoman also questioned the “supposed tourist success” championed by the mayor, attributing visitor numbers to favorable weather conditions and the natural quality of Algeciras' coastline, rather than municipal management, which they describe as lacking foresight and failing to meet contractual obligations.
Finally, the PSOE questions who benefits from this situation, denouncing “disastrous management of citizens' money.” They argue that the service was paid for as high season for the entire week, but was only fully provided for four days. The socialists conclude that “it is clear that the people of Algeciras do not” benefit from this “cutback.”
