The uproar caused by the PP's attempt to censor Cádiz Carnival troupes at an event scheduled for Saturday in Alcalá de Guadaíra, Seville, has provoked a reaction from Jesús Bienvenido, lyricist of DSAS3. In a video posted on social media, Bienvenido pointed to the "red pencil" with which the popular party is trying to "return to its filthy dictatorship," stating that "no one silences Cádiz because it was born free."
Armed with his guitar, Bienvenido's verses criticize "censorship after 40 years of terror" and call for freedom. The lyricist directs insults at the popular leader and candidate for the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, calling him a "smooth-talker" or "deceitful fascist," and invokes the historical memory of his ancestors, "Carnival murguistas, who were persecuted and murdered just for singing."
The recording, shared by personalities such as footballer Héctor Bellerín and Adelante Andalucía candidate José Ignacio García, has had a significant impact on the day of reflection before the elections. The controversy began after a complaint filed by the PP of Alcalá de Guadaíra with the Electoral Board, alleging that several groups included lyrics with political content and social criticism that could violate electoral law.
The Electoral Board of the District of Seville initiated proceedings following the complaint against the Primavera Carnival festival. However, the PP decided to withdraw the complaint after the mayor of Cádiz and PP president in that province, Bruno García, contacted the Sevillian PP members to back down, arguing that the Cádiz Carnival "is freedom and the expression of a people."
For its part, the City Council of Alcalá de Guadaíra, governed by the PSOE, will proceed with the carnival event, which was scheduled before the election was called, thus denying any political intent on the chosen day and for the selected groups.
