The Spring Doctoral School, a key initiative of the Interuniversity Doctoral Program in Communication, began its first day this Thursday. This program, which brings together the universities of Cádiz, Huelva, Málaga, and Seville, and will soon include the University of Almería and the International University of Andalusia (UNIA), boasts a distinguished trajectory, including the AUIP Award for Postgraduate Quality in Ibero-America.
The welcome ceremony featured prominent academic figures such as Antonio Rafael Peña, Rector's Delegate for the Jerez Campus; Luis Escoriza, Director of the UCA Doctoral Schools; José Antonio López, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication; and David Selva, General Coordinator of the doctoral program.

The inaugural lecture was delivered by Dr. Ana Jorge, senior researcher at the Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies (CICANT) and associate professor at Universidade Lusófona in Lisbon. Her presentation was introduced by Ignacio Aguaded, Professor of Education and Communication at the University of Huelva.
The day also included a round table on “New objects and methodologies in communication research,” moderated by José Patricio Pérez Rufi from the University of Málaga, and two simultaneous workshops on qualitative and quantitative methodological approaches applied to doctoral theses. The first session concluded with a wine tasting of Jerez wines at the Claustros de Santo Domingo, sponsored by the Chair of Wine, Society and Sustainability of the UCA and the Jerez de la Frontera City Council.
The second day will address disinformation and political communication in the AI era, with a lecture by Andreu Casero Ripollés, Professor of Journalism at Universitat Jaume I. A round table on publishing in scientific journals will also be held, with the participation of editors from relevant publications such as the International Journal of Public Relations and Communication. International Journal of Audiovisual Communication, Advertising and Cultural Studies.
