The Regional Government of Andalusia has published its report on the water quality of Andalusian beaches during the first half of August, confirming that the vast majority of areas are suitable for enjoyment.

The report, prepared by the Ministry of the Presidency, Health, and Emergencies, covers the period from August 1 to 15 and reveals that the bathing waters of Andalusian beaches remain within the established quality levels. The only exception is the La Colada reservoir, located in El Viso (Córdoba), which remains closed to bathing due to the presence of cyanobacteria, according to information from the Guadiana Hydrographic Confederation.
During this period, isolated incidents were recorded in other areas. At Bajo de Guía-Bonanza beach, in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz), swimming was not recommended due to microbiological contamination, but the situation has since been resolved and the water is suitable. Additionally, on August 10, a spill was reported at El Ancón beach in Carboneras (Almería), caused by a rupture in the public sanitation network. Following remediation efforts, the City Council has cordoned off the affected area and imposed a temporary swimming ban, although subsequent analyses confirmed that water parameters are within acceptable limits.
The Health Surveillance Program for Bathing Waters analyzed samples from 389 sampling points corresponding to 304 usual bathing areas (278 marine and 10 continental), in addition to 16 short-season continental bathing areas. This year, the continental bathing area of the Río Genal in Faraján (Málaga) has been included in the census.
The analyses covered microbiological and macroscopic parameters, transparency, color, mineral oils, persistent foam, floating solids, organic debris, and any other residue – such as glass, plastic, rubber, or wood – that could affect water salubrity and is considered of sanitary interest. All analyses concluded that the waters are suitable for bathing.
By province, 92 samplings were conducted in Almería, 81 in Cádiz, 38 in Granada, 50 in Huelva, and 99 in Málaga. Regarding continental bathing areas, water was analyzed in Almería (La Balsa Cela de Lúcar), Córdoba (reservoirs of La Breña II and La Colada dam), Cádiz (reservoirs of Arcos de la Frontera, Bornos, and Arroyomolinos), Granada (reservoirs of Cubillas, Bermejales, Negratín, Fuencaliente spring, and Río Toba), Jaén (ten bathing areas including rivers and reservoirs), and Málaga (Conde de Guadalhorce reservoir, Hedionda spring, and Río Genal). In Sevilla, waters from the Ribera del Huéznar in San Nicolás del Puerto were analyzed.
The Ministry of Health issues these bi-weekly reports on the sanitary quality of bathing waters, which are publicly available on its website until the end of the bathing season on September 30.
