The Alicante-based team returns to the silver category of Spanish football just one year after their relegation. The promotion was confirmed after a 2-1 victory over Atlético Madrileño, coupled with Sabadell's 0-1 defeat against Antequera, making their lead insurmountable.
The key figure in this achievement has been coach Claudio Barragán, who took charge of the team in the ninth matchday. Under his leadership, Eldense, which was then in thirteenth place, experienced a remarkable climb to the top of the standings.
This marks Barragán's second promotion to the Second Division as a manager, following his previous success with Ponferradina in 2012. The coach previously managed Cádiz CF for a year and a half between November 2014 and April 2016 in the Second Division B.
Interestingly, Barragán and Álvaro Cervera, who recently promoted Tenerife, have both led their respective teams from the former Second Division B to the silver category this season. Should both teams remain in the Second Division, they will face each other again next season.
Also playing for Eldense is Dioni Villalba, a veteran 36-year-old forward who previously played for Cádiz CF in two stints in the bronze division. Villalba has been instrumental in the Alicante team's promotion, becoming their top scorer with eleven goals.
