This initiative, managed through the Provincial Equality Service, seeks to enrich the library collections in less-resourced localities, coinciding with Book Day on April 23. Since its inception, the program has distributed over 1,100 copies across various towns in the province of Cádiz.
In this edition, 47 different titles by approximately 40 authors have been distributed. Most of the works are aimed at children, though texts for teenagers and young adults are also included. In addition to the books, bookmarks and identification plaques have been provided to each participating library.
The selected books cover a wide range of topics related to equality and the prevention of gender violence. Among them are works that highlight historical female figures, such as Clara Campoamor: el primer voto de la mujer (Clara Campoamor: The First Female Vote), Mujeres en la cultura (Women in Culture), or Filósofas de las que nadie me habló (Philosophers No One Told Me About).
The collection also includes stories that challenge gender stereotypes, such as No a todas las niñas les gusta el color rosa (Not All Girls Like Pink), Daniela Pirata (Daniela the Pirate), or Los pantalones de Luisa (Luisa's Trousers). Other titles focus on affective-sexual education and health, with examples like La regla mola (Periods Are Cool) and Tu cuerpo es único y extraordinario, aprende a quererlo (Your Body Is Unique and Extraordinary, Learn to Love It).
The batch also incorporates publications aimed at preventing violence and promoting egalitarian relationships, including Si es amor no duele (If It's Love, It Doesn't Hurt) and Nos tratamos bien (We Treat Each Other Well). Additionally, texts introducing feminist and equality concepts, such as Niños y niñas feministas (Feminist Boys and Girls) or La desfachatez machista (Male Shamelessness), are included. For early childhood, stories like Teresa, la princesa (Teresa, the Princess), along with renowned works such as Arturo y Clementina (Arthur and Clementine) and Rosa Caramelo (Rose Candy), have been selected, as well as specific books for child abuse prevention, like Marta no da besos (Marta Doesn't Kiss) and Mi cuerpo es mío (My Body Is Mine).
This program aligns with the strategies of the Provincial Equality Service to foster social awareness and promote relationships based on equality, with a particular focus on the younger population, using reading as an educational and awareness-raising tool.
