The study, based on figures from the National Statistics Institute, places the Cadiz ratio at 590 nurses per 100,000 inhabitants. Although this figure exceeds the Andalusia average of 562, it remains below the 645 professionals average in Spain and the 812 benchmark in the European Union.
The shortage of healthcare staff directly impacts the system's capacity to manage the rise in chronic diseases and the needs of an increasingly aging population. According to the report, to match European standards, the province would need to add up to 2,813 professionals to its current workforce.
At the regional level, Andalusia stands as one of the communities with the lowest nursing staffing in the country. The regional deficit is estimated at nearly 22,000 professionals, a shortage that worsens during seasonal periods, complicating the coverage of vacations and substitutions in healthcare centers.
