This measure, expected to last approximately one month, will prevent full vehicle circulation around the historic center, affecting both residents and visitors. The Mobility and Local Police departments have confirmed the start of the works, which are part of a sewerage network digitalization project, funded by the European Next Generation program.
The company Tektia Global SL, promoted by Aguas de Cádiz, is responsible for executing these works, which require the complete opening of the roadway on Honduras Street, specifically at the height of República El Salvador. This closure is essential for the completion of the works and will necessitate traffic diversions.
The closure of this road will interrupt circulation in Cádiz's old town and make it difficult to fully circle the center by vehicle in both directions. The impact will be particularly noticeable for residents of the San Carlos neighborhood, as well as for garage and parking owners in the area.
The City Council emphasizes the importance of following the instructions of the Local Police and construction personnel, as well as exercising extreme caution during the duration of the works.
To mitigate inconvenience, the City Council has arranged alternative access routes through several nearby streets, ensuring access to garages and homes. The main traffic cut-off points will be established in Plaza Argüelles and Plaza de la Hispanidad to prevent vehicles from entering Honduras Street. However, garage users will still be able to access their properties via streets such as Conde O’Reilly, República el Salvador, Costa Rica, Avenida del Descubrimiento, Méjico, San Carlos, and, exceptionally, through the passable section of Honduras Street.
Additionally, special signage will be installed at various points in the city, including Glorieta de Simón Bolívar, where a change of direction will be recommended. Public transport will also be affected: urban bus line 2 will modify its route, starting and ending at the Alameda stop, next to Isabel la Católica Street. Pedestrian access will be guaranteed throughout the affected area.
