The grand final of this prestigious competition, which featured over 800 samples and 20 categories, highlighted the quality of Cadiz's dairy products. The cheese factory La Pastora de Grazalema claimed the Gold Medal in the 'Mixed Cured' category for its goat and sheep cheese cured in lard.
In addition to the gold, the province of Cadiz secured two Silver Medals. The cheese factory El Gazul de Alcalá de los Gazules was awarded in the 'Young Goat Raw/Pasteurized Milk' category for its semi-cured Payoya breed cheese. Meanwhile, Quesos Payoyo de Villaluenga del Rosario also received silver in the 'Cured Goat Pasteurized Milk' category for its cured goat cheese.
The championship, recognized as one of the most important in the country, unfolds in two phases. A jury selects finalists from hundreds of cheeses, and subsequently, during the Salón Gourmets, the winners of each category are chosen. The Best Cheese of Spain 2026 will be announced next Thursday, after being selected by a panel of experts from the top three classified in each category.
