Despite being unable to play again this season, Iuri Tabatadze's presence on the pitch at El Rosal, the Bahía de Cádiz Sports City, has been met with optimism by Cádiz fans. The Georgian international player is in the recovery phase, performing exercises on a stationary bike, though still not touching the ball or training with his teammates.
“"Some photos can't move you so much... The photos."
Tabatadze's injury, which affected the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus of his right knee, occurred in January during Cádiz CF's match against Albacete at the Estadio Carlos Belmonte. This incident marked the end of a promising season for the Georgian and the beginning of a negative streak for the team, leading to the dismissal of Gaizka Garitano and the return of Sergio González to the bench. The team went from fighting for promotion to Primera División to being close to relegation to Primera RFEF.
Three months after his injury, Iuri Tabatadze remains Cádiz CF's top scorer, standing out for his effectiveness and commitment, despite not having been an undisputed starter in the first half of the season. In an interview with 'Crystal Sport', the 26-year-old footballer, under contract until June 2028, reflected on his career and the severity of the injury.
“"I think it's the worst injury I've ever had. The moment it happened, as soon as they touched me and I fell, I knew what it was. I don't even remember the pain. Many people say it hurts a lot, but I didn't even feel it, because I went into shock instantly."
The forward also shared the psychological impact of his recovery, especially after the surgery. He admitted there were times when he wasn't thinking about football, but about regaining basic mobility. He credited his wife's support for helping him overcome that difficult period. Tabatadze is expected to return to the field next season, with hopes that Cádiz CF will remain in LaLiga Hypermotion.
