The recently concluded season has been particularly difficult for Cádiz CF, marked by a tough second half of the season that jeopardized their league status. Despite this, the team managed to stay in LaLiga Hypermotion thanks to a solid first half and favorable results from their direct rivals.
Among the club's few bright spots is the performance of its goalkeepers. Both Víctor Aznar and David Gil have exceeded expectations this season, while young academy players like Fer Pérez, David Pérez, Rubén Rubio, and Aitor García have been part of the squad, though without official game time.
Víctor Aznar has emerged as the season's major discovery. The Brazilian goalkeeper, who was practically a debutant in the Second Division, seized the opportunity presented by David Gil's injury last summer to establish himself in goal. His saves have been crucial in earning points and supporting the team, especially during the period when Cádiz CF led the league.
While Aznar still has aspects to refine, such as his reflexes-based playing style and social media management, he has proven his potential in professional football. At 23 years old with a contract until 2027, he represents a significant asset for the club.
Meanwhile, David Gil, who couldn't retain his starting position from the previous year after recovering from injury, has brought veteran experience and a positive locker room presence. Despite spending most of his tenure as a backup, he stepped up when called upon, without being blamed for the team's overall poor performance.
At 32 years old and also contracted until June 2027, Gil finished the season with a satisfactory, albeit not outstanding, performance. It remains to be seen whether he will start the new season as the primary goalkeeper or continue to wait for his opportunity.
