The unstable trajectory of Cádiz CF in the current campaign has led the club to a change of direction on the bench. Imanol Idiakez takes the reins of the team, becoming the third coach this season, following the dismissals of Gaizka Garitano and Sergio González. The Cádiz squad is going through one of its worst historical moments in the second half of the silver category, having accumulated only four points out of a possible 45.
Traditionally, coaches bear the brunt of poor results. Now, the squad seems to see in the new coach an opportunity to implement a style of play that, historically, has not been common for the club. However, this approach might not be the most suitable for a locker room that is emotionally affected and under great pressure. The situation is so delicate that, depending on the results of the matchday, Cádiz could start its next game in relegation positions.
“"The most important thing is the players; I became a coach to defend a way of understanding the game; we are here for six games and we will do what we have to do because football can be played well or badly, but we are going to try to make Cádiz play as well as possible to be as close to the result."
In this new scheme, the presence of an experienced striker is emerging as key. The starting position of this player, along with that of another teammate, could configure a team more oriented towards ball possession. However, this strategy could create vulnerabilities in the defensive aspect, a risk that the new coach will have to manage carefully, especially if he adheres to a philosophy that has not always yielded results in the context of Cadismo.
The main objective of the new coach is clear: to achieve victories. Beyond tactical preferences, the priority is to revitalize a team that is in a critical situation and to get the players to react. How it is achieved is secondary; the fundamental thing is to obtain positive results for Cádiz CF in the upcoming matches.
