The 41st edition of the Cádiz Book Fair begins on June 26 at the Baluarte de la Candelaria. The program, which runs until July 5, incorporates new proposals focusing on cinema, photography, and Andalusian cultural heritage, in addition to traditional literary presentations.
The Regional Ministry of Culture and Sport, through the Andalusian Center for Letters (CAL) and the Andalusian Institute of Cinema and Photography, is actively participating with various activities open to the public.
One of the main focuses will be Andalusian audiovisual creation. On Saturday, June 27, the Sala Josela Maturana will host the presentation of the book ‘Rafael Cobos. Escritura y pantalla’, published by the Filmoteca de Andalucía. The volume analyzes the career of the Sevillian screenwriter and director Rafael Cobos, who will participate in a discussion with the publication's editors.
The following day, Sunday, June 28, the Sala José Luis Cano will be the venue for the presentation of the catalog ‘Misión Andalucía’. Edited by the Andalusian Center for Photography, the project offers a visual journey through the Andalusian territory via the work of eight photographers. The activity is supported by the 35 Milímetros Photography Association of Cádiz.
In the literary sphere, the Andalusian Center for Letters has organized four activities. Notably, writer Lana Corujo, winner of the Azagal Award for Youth Literature, will discuss her novel ‘Han cantado bingo’ on Tuesday, June 30, at the Espacio Pilar Paz Pasamar.
Previously, on Sunday, June 28, writer Juan Tallón will give a talk about his work ‘Mil cosas’. Meanwhile, Sara Torres will discuss the creative process behind her book ‘El pensamiento erótico’ on July 1, also at the Espacio Pilar Paz Pasamar.
The CAL's program will conclude on Sunday, July 5, with a round table titled ‘Manuel de Falla y la Literatura’, organized to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the composer from Cádiz. The event, held in the sala Josela Maturana, will explore Manuel de Falla's connections with the literary and intellectual circles of his time, as well as his relationship with figures like María Lejárraga and Federico García Lorca.
Participants in this round table will include professor Dácil González Mesa, author of the doctoral thesis ‘La biblioteca personal de Manuel de Falla’; translator and musicologist Katia-Sofía Hakim; and researcher and musicologist José Ramón Ripoll.
These proposals expand the Cádiz Book Fair's offerings beyond bookstalls and signings, connecting literature with other artistic disciplines. For ten days, the Baluarte de la Candelaria will solidify its role as a key cultural space in the city.
