The Cádiz railway complex, built two decades ago, could house new commercial establishments. After its inauguration six months ago, the main hall, spanning 2,500 square meters, has been limited to functioning as a waiting area, with activity concentrated in one of its two large rooms.
The first room of the building has remained empty since the completion of construction, while the second room, used as a waiting area, features seating and information screens. The ticket sales area, provisionally set up in an adjacent facility, remains in use, with no plans to relocate it to the main hall.
Sources from Adif have indicated to Diario de Cádiz that the possibility of installing shops in this hall is being analyzed. These spaces would be commercialized through public tender, a strategy the company has already applied in other stations across the country with lower passenger traffic.
The Cádiz station serves one and a half million users annually and currently only has a cafeteria. The proposal to install shops aims to optimize the use of the facilities and generate new revenue.
