This initiative is part of the second phase of the Intelligent Network for Monitoring Bathing Water Quality, aiming for a preventive model that provides information on the coastline's condition and ensures user safety.
The president of the Mancomunidad, Millán Alegre, who attended the event, emphasized the commitment to innovation for protecting the coastline and the water quality of the Bay of Cádiz.
The project, funded by the Provincial Council of Cádiz with 200,000 euros, expands the system initiated in 2025 and plans for four additional buoys, bringing the total operational units in the Bay of Cádiz to eight.
Developed by local companies, these automated buoys perform daily measurements, evolving from manual sampling. The project received first prize at the National Congress of Innovation and Public Services 2026.
The devices monitor parameters such as temperature, pH, conductivity, turbidity, and the presence of E. coli and enterococci. They also include an alert system for municipal officials and the Mancomunidad when anomalous values are detected.
Second Vice President, Ascen Hita, highlighted that a clean and safe coastline enhances the quality of life and the tourism appeal of the municipalities.
Following installations at Camposoto and Sancti Petri, the second phase will continue in Puerto Real, El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, and Rota, with the goal of having twelve operational units to cover the entire coastline of the Bay of Cádiz.
