The mayor of Puerto Real, Aurora Salvador, and the Councilor for Health and Sports, Virginia Mena, welcomed Rubén Puerto after he completed the first stage of his challenge. This initiative, organized by Daño Cerebral Adquirido ADACCA Cádiz and CD Maratón Puerto Real, seeks to raise awareness about the reality of this condition and its impact on affected individuals and their families.
The challenge, which began on Monday, April 13, and will run until April 19, is held under the slogan “ADACCA runs for acquired brain injury.” It combines sport, solidarity, and social awareness. The inaugural stage connected Cádiz with Puerto Real.
Beyond its sporting and charitable dimension, this endeavor holds personal significance for Rubén Puerto. The final stage will conclude in Villablanca, his father-in-law's hometown, who suffered a traumatic brain injury last year, a circumstance that has strengthened his motivation to promote this cause.
Municipal authorities expressed their full support for the runner, emphasizing the pride in having athletes like Rubén Puerto, who not only excel in physical effort and personal achievement but also dedicate their commitment to a vital social cause such as raising awareness for acquired brain injury.
The challenge stages include routes such as Cádiz-Puerto Real (April 13), Puerto Real-Jerez de la Frontera (April 14), Jerez de la Frontera-Sanlúcar de Barrameda (April 15), Sanlúcar de Barrameda-Matalascañas (April 16), Matalascañas-Mazagón (April 17), Mazagón-Aljaraque (April 18), and Aljaraque-Villablanca (April 19).
