The mayor of Chiclana, José María Román, presided over the flag-raising ceremony at Las Banderas square, located on the promenade of La Barrosa. The event was attended by various authorities and representatives of local groups.
The beach will fly the Blue Flag, ISO 14001, Q for Tourist Quality, S for Tourist Sustainability, and Ecoplayas this year. Sancti Petri beach has also obtained the Blue Flag, ISO 14001, Q for Tourist Quality, S for Sustainability, EMAS, and Ecoplayas.
Furthermore, the Salinas de Chiclana Environmental Resource Center has renewed its Blue Flag for its work in environmental education. The blue trail in Novo Sancti Petri, which runs along the coast to the Torre del Puerco, has also been awarded. The town has received two Special Mentions: one for the ‘Lifeguard Service’ and another, the first ever granted, ‘Soludable’, for the prevention of risks related to temperature and sun.
