A swift and coordinated operation by the Civil Guard of Chiclana, with support from the Maritime Service, has led to the seizure of over a ton of hashish on the coast of Cadiz and the arrest of three traffickers. The operation began early last Friday after a suspicious boat with three occupants was detected navigating the Sancti Petri channel.
Citizen Security agents and the Roca Team were dispatched to the location, observing individuals unloading suspicious packages from a recreational boat anchored near the Carboneros esteros. Upon noticing the police presence, the traffickers fled towards San Fernando, discarding the packages into the water, which were identified as bales of hashish.
A Maritime Service patrol boat and the Roca Team managed to arrest one of the crew members who remained at the scene. Simultaneously, land units were alerted that the boat was heading towards San Fernando. Citizen Security agents initiated a ground pursuit, anticipating the narcos might disembark.
Indeed, the boat made landfall in an area known as La Leocadia, and the remaining two crew members fled on foot. Patrol boats reached the location, and officers commenced an arduous pursuit through difficult terrain with poor visibility, ultimately apprehending the two suspects.
The three detainees face charges of drug trafficking and belonging to a criminal organization. According to consulted sources, all have prior police records for similar offenses. After appearing before the court, they have been remanded in provisional prison. The seized drugs, comprising 31 bales, are estimated to weigh over a ton.
