The exhibition 'Tierra Viva', open in Martos, is the outcome of the 'Narraciones' project, an initiative by the Education Department of the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, in collaboration with FADEMUR and the Traveling Workshop of Reading and Writing ‘La Silla de Anea’ from the town.
Participants in the presentation included Begoña de la Riva, project manager for 'Narraciones'; Rufino Ferreras, Head of the Education Department at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza; Teresa López, President of the Federation of Rural Women's Associations (FADEMUR); and Ascensión Millán from the Traveling Workshop of Reading and Writing La Silla de Anea.
The participants in the reading club have worked on their relationship with the territory, using the exhibition 'Terrafilia. Beyond the Human' and works from the Thyssen's collection as a starting point. They have addressed themes such as memory, affections, transformations of the rural environment, wounds, care, and the possibility of imagining other futures, constructing their own narrative about Martos.
The exhibition is structured around five main ideas: living territory, wounds, repair, future, and rural image, placing the voices and experiences of the participating women at the center of the narrative through audiovisual materials and productions created during the project.
The mayor of Martos, Emilio Torres, highlighted the fundamental role of rural women in preserving traditions and developing villages. "Today, those stories occupy their rightful place: the center of an exhibition. And that is something we must celebrate," stated Torres, emphasizing that 'Tierra Viva' "not only takes us to the past but also speaks to us about the future of our villages and the importance of keeping them alive".
The 'Narraciones' project by the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza began in 2019 and, since 2021, has collaborated with FADEMUR to generate collective creation processes with rural women.
