The fire broke out at 7:30 AM on the fourth floor of number 11, Ronda Astrónomo Aljayyani. Inside the property were two men and a pet. The owner managed to exit on foot with the animal, while the second person had to be rescued by firefighters.
The rescued man received treatment for smoke inhalation and was evacuated in very serious condition by emergency services to the Jaén hospital. As a precaution, the apartment block was evacuated during the operation.
Fifteen SPEIS personnel participated in the operation, deploying three vehicles: a light pump, a heavy pump, and a rescue van. Local and National Police officers also attended the scene.
According to initial reports, the fire may have started when a candle fell onto a mattress.
