The initiative, which is part of the Agrarian Employment Promotion Project (PFEA) for the 2025 call and will be carried out during 2026, will cover areas such as Ronda de la Misericordia, El Bulevar, Ronda Sur, the surroundings of the Jaén Plaza shopping center, Puente Tablas, the Córdoba road, and the Azahar urbanization. Interventions will also take place on recently created cycle paths and at the Las Fuentezuelas, Felipe Arche, and La Salobreja sports facilities, as well as on Yayyan Avenue.
The Councilor for the Environment, José María Cano, stated that increasing the tree mass is the project's main line of action. The new specimens will be added to the annual plantings already carried out by the concessionaire company for the maintenance of municipal green areas.
Cano highlighted that this intervention is part of a municipal strategy to adapt Jaén to the effects of climate change and improve public spaces. "We are carrying out a strategic action that will create new shaded areas, make public spaces more comfortable, and reduce the urban heat island effect," he said, adding that residents will be able to see the increased tree cover in numerous parts of the city before the end of the year.
Through this initiative, the City Council combines the improvement of green areas and the city's adaptation to climate change with the creation of employment opportunities for unemployed agricultural workers, through actions distributed across different neighborhoods and public spaces.
