The Martos City Council, in collaboration with the Hubble Astronomical Association, has organized a preparatory event for the solar eclipse that will occur on August 12. The activity will take place on Saturday, July 11, at eleven in the morning, at the Paseo del Calvario.
Mayor Emilio Torres highlighted Martos' significance as a Starlight Reserve, a certification recognizing its sky quality for astronomical observation. He also mentioned the company Astroandalus and the educational work of the Hubble association, emphasizing that the August eclipse will be a historic event.
Torres invited citizens to participate in the upcoming Saturday activity, underscoring the government team's commitment to environmental awareness and nature-based tourism.
Councilor for the Environment, Alejandro Expósito, stressed the focus on scientific dissemination, particularly for children, to spark their interest. He explained that those interested in attending the preparatory activity for the solar eclipse should send an email to medioambiente@martos.es, including the participant's name and date of birth.
The vice president of Hubble detailed that the event will include observing solar phenomena with new equipment and will cover topics such as the sun's position, solar phases, equinoxes, and solstices.
