The Environment Department of the Villa del Río City Council has issued a new call for citizen responsibility due to the persistent appearance of trash bags, furniture, belongings, cardboard, and other improperly deposited waste next to containers. It is reminded that containers are for waste inside them, not for creating makeshift landfills in their surroundings.
Emphasis is placed on the correct management of cardboard, which must be flattened and placed inside the blue container to optimize space. Leaving unfolded boxes or outside the container when it has capacity causes overflows, hinders cleaning, and damages the municipality's image. If containers are full, it is recommended to use nearby ones or go to the Municipal Recycling Point.
The majority of Villa del Río residents act correctly, but the irresponsible actions of a few create health and safety problems and require the allocation of additional public resources for the removal of this waste.
The Municipal Recycling Point, located at Polígono de la Estrella, s/n, accepts a wide range of waste such as paper and cardboard, packaging, glass, batteries (alkaline, saline, button), car batteries, light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, small amounts of debris from minor works, appliances, computer and electronic equipment, domestic vegetable oils, aerosols, toner and ink cartridges, furniture and belongings, clothing, footwear, and other textiles, pruning and gardening waste, X-rays, paint cans, solvents, and varnishes, and certain hazardous domestic waste under admission conditions.
A special warning is issued regarding the discovery of asbestos cement sheets among abandoned waste. This material is hazardous, must not be handled, and its removal and disposal must be carried out by legally authorized companies registered with the Registry of Companies with Asbestos Risk (RERA).
The Municipal Recycling Point has summer hours (from April 21 to October 30) and a free bulky waste collection service (EPREMASA) is available with online requests and collections on Tuesdays in Villa del Río.
The Security Department and the Local Police are intensifying surveillance and sanctioning procedures to identify those responsible for abandoning waste. Fines can reach up to 3,000 euros. The Recycling Point is under video surveillance, and monitoring of areas with repeated waste abandonment is being reinforced.
Citizens are encouraged to confidentially report any improper waste dumping, providing information that helps identify the incidents. The municipal effort to maintain clean streets requires the cooperation of all citizens.
