The Security area of the Ayuntamiento de Villa del Río, in collaboration with the Villa del Río Local Police, has issued a statement with recommendations for safely and responsibly enjoying the solar eclipse on the upcoming Wednesday, August 12th.
Emphasis is placed on the importance of using certified solar observation glasses compliant with the ISO 12312-2 standard, warning that one should never look directly at the Sun without adequate protection, as it can cause severe and irreversible eye damage.
Special attention is given to minors, who must be accompanied by an adult and correctly use eye protection throughout the observation. Furthermore, caution is advised regarding the use of cameras, binoculars, and telescopes, which require specific solar filters and are not compatible with eclipse glasses.
The statement also includes recommendations to prevent fire risks, urging against lighting fires or having barbecues in natural areas and avoiding the disposal of cigarette butts. Regarding protection against heat, it is advised to drink water frequently, wear a cap or hat, use sunscreen, and light clothing, avoiding prolonged exposure during the central hours of the day.
It is suggested to choose a safe environment, seek open and authorized spaces, respect the indications of emergency services, and contribute to maintaining the environment clean and cared for. The Villa del Río Local Police reminds the public that conventional sunglasses, smoked glass, X-rays, or homemade filters are not valid methods for observing the eclipse.
For any emergency, the number 112 is recalled. Local Police contact numbers are also provided: 092 and WhatsApp 627 44 46 46. The aim is to enjoy this astronomical phenomenon responsibly, prioritizing safety.
